Aggregated data on theses and dissertations on ethnography
February 21, 2017 marked the meeting of Efim Rezvan, Russian Ethnographers and Anthropologists. 20th century Project manager and coordinator, and Boris Wiener, Senior Researcher at the Sociological Institute, RAS, author of a large-scale project dedicated to the classification of data on theses and dissertations on ethnography defended in the former USSR, the Russian Federation, and the post-Soviet space. The meeting was held in the furtherance of the Russian Ethnographers and Anthropologists. 20th century Project.
Presently, we have processed the data sourced from paper versions of authors abstracts of theses stored in the MAE RAS Library, the Academic collection of the The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the National Library of Russia. More data were collected from the following web-sites: http://www.dissercat.com, http://cheloveknauka.com, and http://нэб.рф/. Bibliographic information about the authors’ abstracts missing in the above sources was retrieved form the site of the Russian State Library, http://search.rsl.ru. Besides, we collected some data on certain theses and dissertations from the reports published in the journal Sovetskaya Etnografiya [Soviet Ethnography], obituaries of famous ethnologists, as well as interviews, memoirs and reference facts of scientific and academic institutions, available on the Internet.
We are planning to complete the work on the summary table of the data on theses and dissertations on ethnography in 2018, following which the aggregated data will be available on our site. A preliminary table was provided courtesy of Boris Wiener and is used extensively to further update and supplement the materials used in our project.
