Biography, education, career:

In 1998 Boris Wiener defended his Candidate Dissertation at the Institute of Sociology, RAS. His Dissertation was titled Intergenerational Transmission of Ethnic Identity in Ethno-Dispersed Minorities (on the Example of Present-day Saint-Petersburg). In 2004‑2007 he also taught at the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology, SPb State University. Presently, Boris Wiener occupies the position of senior researcher at Sociological Institute, Branch of the Federal Research Centre for Sociology, RAS.

Areas of expertise: Historiography, Source studies and Methodology of Ethnography; History and ethnography of Slavic peoples (Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Belorussians, Jews); Ethnosociology; ethnosociology; theories of ethnos and ethnicity; ethnic identity; sociology of religion; urban ethnography; sociology of social sciences
