Biography, education, career:

In 1999 Igor Vernyaev defended his Candidate Dissertation at Saint-Petersburg State University; it was titled The Peasant Society of Pskov Region (2nd Half of the 19th – 1st Quarter of the 20th Century): A Historic and Ethnographic Study. Since 2004 he is Associate Professor at the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology, Faculty of History, SPSU.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the Russians; Social anthropology and history; Family and marriage; social institutions of Russians; comparative study of social structures and their dynamics in history; social history of Russia; economic anthropology; information technologies and the Internet in ethnography
