Biography, education, career:

On July 1, 1966 he defended his Candidate’s Dissertation titled The Social structure of the Fouta-Djallon Fulani in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1961‑1962 teacher of history, English and French at secondary school of working youth in Zaporozhye. In 1966‑1969 ‑ junior researcher of the African sector, in 1969‑1980 ‑ junior researcher, in 1980 ‑ senior researcher, in 1978 ‑ Deputy Head of the Sector of Religious Studies and Foreign Ethnology, in 1987‑1989 ‑ head of the Group for the Study of Racial Problems in the Modern World, in 1989‑2004 ‑ senior researcher at the Department of Ethnic Cartography and Religious Studies at Center of Religious Studies and Ethnic and Religious Cartography, since 2004 ‑ senior researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, in 1971 ‑ member of editorial Board, Deputy editor-in-chief of the Yearbook “Races and peoples” of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR Academy of Sciences / Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, RAS
