Ivanov Vitaly Petrovich

Biography, education, career:

In 1981 Vitaly Ivanov defended his Candidate’s Dissertation at the Institute of Ethnography, titled Modern Chuvash Urban Family. In 2005 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation at Chuvash State University, titled Demic Diffusion and Population Size of the Chuvash in Russia: Historical Dynamics and Regional Specific Features (A Historical and Ethnographic Research). In 1976–1977 he worked as a junior researcher at the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography of Chuvash State University of Humanities; in 1981–1992 he was Scientific Secretary, Head of the Department of History, Deputy Director for Research. In 1993–1996 worked for the government – held the position of Minister of Culture for Nationalities' Affairs of the Chuvash Republic. Since January 1997 he works at Chuvash State University of Humanities; since 2006 he occupies the position of leading researcher.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of the Urals-Volga region; ethnic history and traditional culture, ethnogeography and ethnodemography of the Chuvash; modern ethnic processes and interethnic relations in Chuvashia
