Biography, education, career:

In 1943, upon the recommendation of Tashkent State University, the State Committee for Academic Degrees and Titles conferred the degree of Candidate of Biology upon Mikhail Gerasimov without a defense. In 1956 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation, based on his monograph, titled Forensic Facial Reconstruction (Hominid and Modern Human). In 1950‑1970 he was Head of the Laboratory for Plastic Reconstruction of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. M. Gerasimov is the creator of the famous portrait gallery of historical figures.

Areas of expertise: Physical anthropology (development of forensic facial reconstruction method); Archaeology (1927‑1938 excavations in Malta)
