Biography, education, career:
In 1969 Aleksandr Gadlo defended his Candidate Dissertation, titled South Cis-Azov Region During the Khazar Khaganate: The Problem of Cis-Azov Rus and Modern Archaeological Data on South Cis-Azov Region of the 8th – 10th Centuries. In defended his Doctoral Dissertation, titled North Caucasus in the 4th– 10th Centuries. Problems of Ethic History. From 1965 he lectured at the Faculty of History, Leningrad State University; from 1968 – at the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology (from 1986 – Professor; from 1990 – Head of the Department). A. Gadlo headed archaeological expeditions to the Lower Don and Eastern Crimea; he was also the leader of the Caucasus Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition organized by Leningrad State University.
