Biography, education, career:

On 12 December 2002 Elena Batyanova defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled Teleutic Kins and Tribes in the 19th – 20th Centuries, at the Institute of Ethnography. Since 1983 she worked at the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS, presently she is a senior researcher at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, RAS. Since 1976 she has participated in over 20 expeditions (Teleuts, Koryaks, Chukchi).

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Siberia, the Extreme North, and the Far East; Historiography, Source studies and Methodology of Ethnography; social organization, traditional spiritual culture, traditional knowledge, oral history
