Alimova Bariyat Magomedovna

Biography, education, career:

In 1977 Bariyat Alimova defended her candidate dissertation titled Marriage and Marital Rites of Kumyks in the Past and Present (late 19th–20th centuries); in 2003 she defended her doctoral dissertation titled Food and Food Culture of the Turkic Peoples of Dagestan in 19th-early 20th centuries. Similarities and Differences in light of Genetic Sources and Ethnocultural Relations.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; Family and marriage; Ethnic musicology; history and ethnography of indigenous minorities of Dagestan; issues of family and household; ethnocultural relations of Kumyks between the peoples of Dagestan and North Caucasus.

Awards and titles:

Honoured Scientist of the Republic of Dagestan.
