Biography, education, career:
In 1902‑1920 Kvitka worked as a lawyer. In 1920‑1922 he began a Member of the Ethnographic Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1922‑1933 he headed the Musical Ethnography Cabinet of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Since 1933 he successfully occupied the positions of Professor (1933‑1934, 1936‑1953), head of the Cabinet for Study of Musical Creativity of the USSR Peoples, since 1940 he had worked at the Department of musical folklore of the Moscow Conservatory. On February 8, 1934 Kvitka was arrested and on April 19, 1934 sentenced to three years of forced labor camps. He served time in Kazakhstan and in 1964 was rehabilitated.
