In 1969 Alexander Aleksandrenkov defended his candidate dissertation titled The Indians of the Antilles Islands before the European Invasion; in 1998 he defended his doctoral dissertation titled Problems of Development of Ethnic Identity (Cuba of 16th–19th centuries).
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of North and South America; Historiography, Source studies and Methodology of Ethnography; ethnic history and ethnography of Latin America.
