Biography, education, career:
In 1994, in MAE RAS, Yuri Botyakov defended his Candidate Dissertation, titled The Alaman: Social and Economic Aspects of the Turkmenian Institution of Raid (Mid-19th –First Half of the 20th Centuries). Presently, he is senior researcher at the Department of Caucasus, MAE RAS. Since 2005 he has taught at the Department of Country Studies and International Tourism, Faculty of Geography and Geo-Ecology, SPSU.
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; History and ethnography of the peoples of Central Asia; traditional social institutions of the peoples of North Caucasus and the Turkmen
