Biography, education, career:

In 1965-1970 Evgeny Kaloev studied at the Department of African Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, LSU. In 1970-1973 he did a post-graduate course. In 1973-1994 he worked as a junior researcher at the Department of Africa, Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1977 he participated in the expedition mounted by the USSR Academy of Sciences to Oceania aboard the ship Dmitry Mendeleev. Since 1991 he holds the position of Director of Evropeisky Dom (European) Publishing House in Saint-Petersburg.
