Biography, education, career:

In 1952 Sakinat Gadzhieva defended her Candidate Dissertation in Moscow. It was titled Kayakent Kumyks in the 19th – 20th Centuries (A Historical and Ethnographic Study of the Life and Culture of Kumyk Collective-Farm Peasantry). In 1962 she defended her Doctoral Dissertation, titled Kumyks: A Historical and Ethnographic Research. From 1952 she worked as a researcher and in 1958‑1988 – Head of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Institute of History, Anthropology and Ethnography, Dagestan Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1988‑2003 she successively occupied the positions of senior and leading researcher at the Department of Ethnography of the Institute of History, Anthropology and Ethnography, Dagestan Scientific Centre of RAS.
