Biography, education, career:
On 8 May 1951, at the Institute of Ethnography, Berta Volchok defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled The Social Structure of the Santal. In 1974‑1985 she was a senior researcher of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1986 she lived in the USA.
