Biography, education, career:
In 1950 he defended his Сandidate's dissertation on old Russian metalworking, in 1964 — his Doctoral thesis on dendrochronology of Medieval Novgorod. In 1941—1942 he participated in the Great Patriotic war. In 1949—1967 — junior researcher, senior researcher, in 1967—1984 — Head of the Laboratory of Natural and Technical Methods of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
