Biography, education, career:
On 23 November 1982 Natalya Kalashnikova defended her Candidate’s Dissertation, titled The Clothing of the Urban Population of Moldavia in the 17th – 19th Centuries. On 18 October 1999 she defended her Doctoral Dissertation (in cultural studies), titled Folk Costume in the Context of Russian Traditional Culture. In 1969-2008 she successively occupied the positions of junior researcher (1969-1972), senior researcher (1972-1978), Head of the Department of Ethnography of Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Moldova (1978-1987), Deputy Director for Research of the State Museum of Ethnography of the peoples of the USSR (1987-1998), and lead researcher of the Russian Museum of Ethnography (1998-2008). Since 1989 N. Kalashnikova is Full Professor at Saint-Petersburg State University; since 1992 – Full Professor at Saint-Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.
