Biography, education, career:

On 16 June 1949, at the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Zoya Boyarshinova defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled The Population of Tomsk Uezd in the 1st Half of the 17th Century. On 12 May 1967 she presented a scholarly paper similar to a Doctoral Dissertation and was awarded a degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences by the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The paper was titled Western Siberia on the Eve of Joining Russia. Agricultural Development of Western Siberia by Russians During the Feudal Epoch. In 1941-1947, 1952-1955, and 1959-1963 she occupied the position of Dean of the Faculty of History and Philology of Tomsk State University. She was one of the founders of the Fundamental Research Laboratory for History, Archaeology and Ethnography of Siberia at Tomsk SU in 1968. Among her students are many ethnographers from Tomsk.
