Biography, education, career:
In 1980 at the Institute of Oriental studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences he defended his Candidate’s Dissertation titled The People's Houses in the socio-political and cultural life of the Republic of Turkey. After 18 years in the Military History Institute of the RF Defense Ministry was the defense of his Doctoral thesis Contribution of Russian military researchers in the study of Central Asia (end of 19th — beginning of 20th centuries). In 1974‑1991 he was in the military service. In 1991‑1995 he was working in the field of international journalism in Germany and Poland. In 1995 — 2013 — in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, worked in Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Israel. He has a diplomatic rank of Counselor of the 1st class. Professor, taught at the Leningrad State University (1976—1984), Institute of the Asian and African States of the Moscow State University (1995—1997), Moscow State Institute of International Relations (1995—1997); St. Petersburg State University (2001—2005); Institute of International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences, Moscow State Linguistic University (2013—2016), as well as a visiting Professor at the Turkmen State University (1997—2001); Osh Humanitarian and Pedagogical Institute (2002—2004); Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (2004—2016); OSCE Academy in Bishkek (2004—2005). Since 2015 — Head of the St. Petersburg Regional Information and Analytical Center of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies. Since 2018 – Professor at the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of the St. Petersburg State University.
