Kozmin Nikolay Nikolaevich

Biography, education, career:
In 1891 he graduated from Irkutsk gymnasium with a Silver medal, in 1896 received the academic title of Candidate of Historical and Philological Faculty of St. Petersburg University. In 1900—1906 he is the Head of the East Siberian Department of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, being active in research and expedition activities. In 1922—1924 — Deputy People's Commissar of Agriculture, Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR. Since 1924 — lecturer, Professor of the Department of Local History of Irkutsk State University. In 1924 —1931 — organizer and editor of the magazine “Life of Buryatia”. In 1927—1928 — Director of the Irkutsk State Museum. He participated in the creation of the “Siberian Soviet Encyclopedia”. On August 23, 1937 he was arrested by the NKVD of the East Siberian Region, accused of espionage in favor of Japan and participation in the White Guard counter-revolutionary organization. Died being under investigation in the hospital of Irkutsk prison. He was rehabilitated in 1994.
