In 1980 Alexander Anfertyev defended his candidate dissertation titled Calendar Ritual Rounds and March Ritualism of the Peoples of Eastern Europe: Spiritual Continuity and Ethnocultural Contacts (academic advisor – B.N. Putilov). Known for his commentary on N.N. Miklukho-Maklai’s and the famous Russian poet A.A. Akhmatova’s writings.
