Biography, education, career:
Erna Zibert comes from a family of military servicemen. In 1925‑1930 she studied at the Department of Ethnography of the Faculty of Geography, Leningrad State University. From 1930 she worked as a researcher at the Department of Cartography, Institute for the Study of the Peoples of the USSR. In 1931‑1934 she worked as a supervisor and guidelines developer of the Society for Proletarian Tourism and Excursions in Leningrad Region. In 1934‑1941 and 1945‑1972 she worked as a junior researcher of the Department of America at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS. From 1942 she occupied the position of Curator of the State Hermitage.
