Zheltov Aleksandr Yuryevich

Biography, education, career:
In May 1993 Aleksandr Zheltov was awarded the degree of Candidate of Sciences in Philology at SPSU (thesis title: Morphemic paradigms in the Swahili language system (a study of verbal affixes). In June 2009 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philological Sciences in Philology (thesis title: The Niger-Congo Languages: a Structural and Dynamic Typology). Since 2010 he occupies the position of Head of the Department of African Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Languages, SPSU; he is Full Professor and Head of the Department of African Ethnography of the MAE RAS.
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Africa; Ethnolinguistics (African linguistics); linguistic typology; Historiography, Source studies and Methodology of Ethnography (methodology of African studies); interaction of linguistic and extralinguistic elements of culture; the Bantu languages, Swahili, the Mande languages, the Adamawa languages, category of nominal classes in the Niger-Congo languages; personal pronouns in the world languages; role typology; Anthropology of kinship (systems of kinship terms)
