Biography, education, career:
In 1940 Andrey Danilin defended his Candidate’s Dissertation at A.I. Hertsen Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute; it was titled Burkhanism: From the History of the National Liberation Movement in Oirotia. In 1920‑1921 he participated in the expedition to Turkestan, where he made the acquaintance of S. F. Oldenburg, V.V. Bartold, M.S. Andreev, A.A, Semyonov and others. In 1923‑1924 he worked as a researcher at the Central Bureau of Local History. From 1925 he was Head of the Department of Ethnography of the Museum of Central Industrial Region in Moscow. In the summer months of 1927‑1929 he participated in the Oirot Complex Expedition of the USSR AS, and during the winter months he was Deputy Secretary of The Department of Ethnography and Deputy Secretary of the Commission for the Study of Folk Music of the Russian Geographic Society. In 1928 he participated in the expedition to Lodeynoye Pole Okrug, mounted by the Russian Geographic Society. In 1930‑1932 he worked as a researcher at the State Academy of the History of Material Culture. In 1931‑1933 he also worked as a researcher at the Institute for the Study of the Peoples of the USSR. In 1933 he was Head of the Political Educational Department of the MAE. From November 1933 he was a researcher at the Ethnographic Department of the State Russian Museum / State Museum of Ethnography (from 1934). Andrey Danilin died during the siege of Leningrad.
