Biography, education, career:
In 1990 Nadezhda Grugulevich defended her Candidate’s Dissertation, titled The System of Nutrition of Russian Old Residents of Azerbaijan (A Cross-cultural and Ethnoecological Analysis, Based on the Materials of the 19th – 20th Centuries). In 1976‑1982 she worked as a researcher at the Laboratory of Cell Immunomorphology of N.F. Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. From 1991 she successively occupied the positions of researcher and senior researcher at the Department of Ethnoecology of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of RAS.
Areas of expertise: Ethnoecology; History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; adaptation of ethnic and ethno-confessional groups to various environmental and social conditions; ethnicity and nutritional ecology; traditional nutrition as a way for ethnic groups to adapt to the changing socio-cultural and environmental conditions
