Biography, education, career:

On 8 February 1962Aleasandr Grach defended his Candidate’s Dissertation, titled Ancient Turkic Sculptures of Tuva (Based on the Research Materials of 1953‑1960). In 1963‑1973 he successively occupied the positions of junior and senior researcher at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR AS. In 1974 he was a junior researcher at the Department of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1974‑1977 he worked as a senior researcher at the Tuvan Research Institute of Language, Literature, and History. In 1978‑1981 he was a senior researcher at the Department of Central Asia and Kazakhstan of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR AS.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Siberia, the Extreme North, and the Far East; Archaeology; Paleoethnography; archaeology and paleoethnography of the peoples of Central Asia and Southern Siberia
