Biography, education, career:

In 1963 Ilya Gokhman defended his Candidate Dissertation, titled The Population of Ukraine in the Mesolithic and Neolithic Periods. In 1969‑2002 he was Head of the Department of Anthropology of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the USSR AS / RAS. From 1959 he taught anthropology at the Department of Archaeology, and from 1968 – at the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology of Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg) University.

Areas of expertise: Physical anthropology; Paleoethnography; Ethnogenesis; paleoethnography and ethnogenesis of the peoples of Siberia, Central Asia, Europe, and the Middle East
