Biography, education, career:
In 1977 Vsevolod Gokhman defended his Candidate Dissertation at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography; it was titled The Shan of Burma: A Historical and Ethnographic Sketch. In 1992 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation at the Faculty of Oriental Languages of Leningrad State University; it was titled Historical Phonetics of Thai Languages. From 1977 he worked as a junior researcher at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences; from 1993 he was a senior researcher at Saint-Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences; and from 2003 he was a leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
