Biography, education, career:
In 1923‑1930 Anatoly Genko was a scientific curator of the Asiatic Museum. In 1930‑1938 and 1940‑1941 he was Head of the Caucasian Department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1923‑1929 Genko worked as a researcher at the Russian Academy of the History of Material Culture; and in 1924‑1930 – a researcher at the Japhetic Institute. In 1924‑1932 he successively occupied the positions of Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Caucasian Languages of Leningrad State University. In 1925‑1930 he occupied the position of Associate Professor at Leningrad Oriental Institute. From 1934 – member of the Association of Specialists in Caucasian Studies of the Institute for Oriental Studies. In 1936‑1938 and 1940‑1941 he was Head of the Department of the Caucasus of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. On 25 October 1935 he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Linguistics (without defense). In 1938‑1940 Anatoly Genko was under arrest for allegations of anti-Soviet Propaganda. On 26 December 1991 he was posthumously exonerated.
