Biography, education, career:
On 6 April 1971, at the Institute of Ethnography, Irina Vlasova defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled Rural Settlement in Ustyug Region in the 18th – 1st Half of the 20th Century. On 20 May 1988 she defended her Doctoral Dissertation at Moscow State University; it was titled The Traditions of Peasant Land-Use in Pomorye and West Siberia in the 17th – 18th Centuries. She was a leading researcher at the Department of Russian People, Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, RAS. Vlasova won a State Science Award; she was an Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, and the author of over a 100 scientific papers.
