Biography, education, career:
In 1935 Lydia Karunovskaya defended her Dissertation for the Degree of Candidate of Ethnography. In 1923‑1924 she worked as a tour-guide at a Provincial office of political education (Gubpolitprosvetbaza). In 1925‑1933 she was a researcher at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. In 1933‑1937 she held the positions of junior researcher and Head of the Department of Indonesia, Institute of Ethnography, USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1937‑1958 she worked as a senior researcher of the Department of East and South Asia of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS.
