Biography, education, career:
In 2013 Ekaterina Kapustina defended her Candidate’s Dissertation, titled Labour Migration from Dagestan as a Business Practice and a Sociocultural Phenomenon. Since 2004 she has worked at Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), first as a junior researcher, presently – as Head of the Department of the Caucasus.
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; Applied ethnography; History of material culture; Islamic studies; ethnography of Dagestan, labour migration from Dagestan, migration processes in the North Caucasus, transnationalism and translocality, economic anthropology in the North Caucasus, anthropology of Caucasian city, social practices in Dagestani society, the fate of traditional crafts of Dagestan, Shiite communities of Dagestan, Dagestani communities
