Biography, education, career:
In 2003 Ilya Gubanov defended his Candidate’s Dissertation at Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), RAS; it was titled Scandinavian Culture and Society of the Viking Era. From 2003 he is a senior researcher at the Department of Europe of the MAE RAS.
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Europe; history of Ancient Scandinavian culture and society; Icelandic family sagas; the Old English epic poem Beowulf; culture of informal groups (hippies, etc) from the 1960-s to the present day
