In 1914‑1915 Georgy Vinogradov worked as an ethnographer in Irkutsk and Yeniseysk Governorates, where he got his first papers published. In 1915‑1916 he taught at different educational institutions of Chita. From 1925 he occupied the position of Professor of Russian Ethnography at Irkutsk University. From 1920 he was Head of Russian Department at Irkutsk Regional Museum of Ethnography. In late 1920-s Professor Vinogradov was accused of anti-Marxism and there was launched a campaign to stigmatize him. He was fired from the university on 1 February 1930 as “ideologically corrupt and having a bad influence on the proletarian student body of a Soviet university”. He moved to Leningrad, where he worked at various Institutes of the USSR Academy of Science, at the Institute of Russian Literature in particular, and where he completed his four-volume monograph, titled ''The Fate of Slavic Tribes in Siberia''. In 1922 he defended his Master Thesis, titled ''Bogomiles in Siberia''. In March 1945 he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Philology for his life-time contributions in science.
