Biography, education, career:

On 16 July 1947 Irina Zolotareva defended her Candidate’s Dissertation at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences; it was titled Telengits of Kazakh Khans and Sultans in the 18th – 19th Centuries. From 1941 she worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS, Leningrad. She successively occupied the positions of junior researcher (1945‑1955) and senior researcher (1955‑1964) at the Department of Central Asia and Kazakhstan of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Central Asia; Ethnic museology; ethnography of the Turkic peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan
