Biography, education, career:

On 14 May 1985 Victor Viktorin defended his Candidate Dissertation at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnograhy. The dissertation was titled Social Organization and Common Law of the Nogais of Lower Volga Region in the 18th – early 20th Centuries. Since 1979 V. Viktorin has taught at various institutions; presently, he teaches at Astrakhan State University and Astrakhan Branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. He occupies the position of Chairman of the Academic Council of Astrakhan State United Historical and Architectural Museum Reserve and is the Head of the Scientific Centre for Ethnopolitical Research, Astrakhan Branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of Siberia, the Extreme North, and the Far East; History and ethnography of Turkic peoples; Traditional culture; traditional culture of sustainment in the material and social regulatory aspects; folklore and ethnography of the Yakut; history of Islam in Russia
