The project is being implemented with the help of a targeted grant of the Russian Geographical Society. Its initial and main goal is to create the first in Russian science integrated online project containing a diverse and unique data on the history of Russian ethnography and anthropology and the history of the Russian Geographical Society on the basis of the “Materials for the biobibliographic dictionary of Russian ethnographers and anthropologists. 20th Century” (St. Petersburg, 2012) by Alexander M. Reshetov. Project materials are of great importance for the historiography, source studies and methodology of ethnography. They may serve as a crucial impetus for new research.

The form of a publicly available updated electronic directory in Russian and English will ensure the development of the project for many decades to come.

The project aims to address the following challenges:

— the updating of comprehensive information on the history of national ethnography and anthropology;
— the creation of a modern environment of scientific interaction and communication between ethnographers and anthropologists of Russia and the post-Soviet states.

The project allows not only generalizing the unique data on the history of national ethnography and anthropology but to commemorate our teachers and create an effective tool for training and educating young researchers, promoting the achievements of national science abroad.
