Biography, education, career:

Klementz was born in the family of an estate manager. Being a student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Kazan University and the St. Petersburg University he interrupted his studies and in 1873 moved to an illegal position. In 1879 he was arrested and exiled to Minusinsk. In 1894‑1896 Klementz led the Yakut (Sibiryakovskaya) expedition, then he participated in the expeditions to Mongolia led by N. M. Yadrintsev (1889) and by V. V. Radlov (1891). Since 1897 Klementz successfully occupied the positions of Senior Ethnographer of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (1897‑1901) and Head of the Ethnographic Department at the Russian Museum (1901‑1910).
