Biography, education, career:

In 1955 Kinzhalov defended his Candidate’s Dissertation, titled The political and social orientation of the novel “On the Life of Alexander the Great”. Version A at the State Hermitage Museum, in November 1971 – the Doctoral Dissertation on his monograph Culture of the ancient Maya at the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1941‑1942 he was a Komsomol organizer of the frontline hospital. Since 1943 he successfully occupied the positions of researcher at The Radishchev State Art Museum in Saratov (1943‑1944), junior researcher, senior researcher at the Department of the East of the State Hermitage Museum (1945‑1957), senior researcher at the Leningrad part of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1957‑1991), chief researcher at the MAE RAS (since 1991). He was lecturing at the Faculty of Oriental and African Studies (“Greek Papyrology”) and at the Faculty of History (“Ethnography of America”) of the Leningrad State University.
