Kalinovskaya Klara Petrovna

Biography, education, career:

In 1972 Klara Kalinovskaya defended her Candidate’s Dissertation at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences; it was titled Age Groups of the Peoples of East Africa. Structure and Functions. In 1958-1982 she worked as a researcher at the Department of Africa of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography, USSR Academy of Sciences. Since 1982 she is a lead researcher at the Institute of Ethnography; since 1993 she is Head of the Ethnographic museum cabinet named after N.N. Cheboksarov, Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Sciences. Kalinovskaya is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Ethnography and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy Chair of the Specialized Scientific Council of the Institute of Ethnography and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Sciences for Candidate Dissertations Defense; she is a member of the Council for the Problems of Africa, Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1991 she was elected Foreign Correspondent Member of the Overseas Development Institute in London.
