Biography, education, career:

On 28 June Valentin Gardanov defended his Candidate Dissertation at the Institute of Ethnography. It was titled Social Structure of the Peoples of Adygea in the 18th – 1st Half of the 19th Centuries. In 1961‑1989 he was Head of the Department of the Caucasus of Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Areas of expertise: Ethnic museology; History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; history and social structure of the peoples of North Caucasus
