Biography, education, career:

In 1997 Svetlana Batyreva defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled Old Kalmyk Art of the 18th – the beginning of the 20th Centuries. A Historic and Cultural Reconstruction. In 2011 she defended her Doctoral Dissertation, titled Kalmyk Visual Art of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th Centuries. A Historic and Cultural Reconstruction. She is a leading research scientist at the Department of Mongolian Philology, Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science “Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences” (Elista, Republic of Kalmykia, Russian Federation), Director of the Zaya Pandita Museum of Traditional Culture, National Kalmykian Institute of Humanities Research, RAS.

Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of Mongolian peoples; Buddhist studies; Ethnic museology; Ethnic pedagogy; Kalmyk traditional culture and visual arts: applied and decorative, Buddhist, and modern art
