Biography, education, career:
In 1972 Yuri Asanov defended his candidate dissertation titled Settlements, Dwellings and Household Buildings of Balkarians in the 2nd half of the 19th – the 40s of the 20th centuries (academic advisor – G.S. Chitaya).
Areas of expertise: History and ethnography of the peoples of the North and South Caucasus; History of material culture; forms of social organization of the Adyghe (Circassians), Balkarians, the Karachays, and Ossetians in the Past; heroic and historical songs of the Karachays and Balkarians
