Biography, education, career:

In 1956 Valeriy Alekseev defended his candidate dissertation titled Paleoanthropology of South Siberia (Altai-Sayan Highland) (academic advisor – G.F. Debets); in 1967 he defended his doctoral dissertation titled Craniology of the Peoples of East Europe and the Caucasus in Relation to Their Origin.

Areas of expertise: Historiography, Source studies and Methodology of Ethnography; Physical anthropology; anthropology of the peoples of the world, archaeology.

Membership in academic organizations and unions:

From 1981 – Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences; from 1987 – Full Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
