In 1965 Foat Valeev defended his Candidate Dissertation, titled ''Siberian Bokharans in the 2nd Half of the 19th – early 20th Centuries (A Historical and Ethnographic Sketch)'', with Kh. Z. Ziyaev as his academic advisor. On 28 January 1988 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation, titled ''Siberian Tatars: Problems of Ethnocultural Development in the 2nd Half of the 19th – early 20th Centuries''. From 1991 he held the position of Professor at the Department of Political History, Kazan Kazan State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Valeev participated in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded three Orders of the Patriotic War (First and Second Class) and a number of medals.
