On 30 March 1953 Kseniya Gerasimova defended her Candidate Dissertation at Leningrad State University. It was titled ''Lamaism and the National Colonial Policy of Tsarism in Transbaikalia in the 2nd Half of the 19th – early 20th Century''. In 1990 she defended her Doctoral Dissertation at the N.N. Miklikho-Maclay Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. It was titled ''Ethnosocial Basis of Religious Syncretism of the Lamaism System''. In 1992‑1994 Gerasimova was a leading researcher, and in 1994‑2005 – chief research scientist at the Department of Oriental Manuscripts and Documents, Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the BSC SB RAS.
