On 28 July 1982 Galina Galdanova defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled ''Pre-Lamaistic Beliefs of Buryats of Transbaikal (Based on the Materials of Ethnographic Research of the 19th – 20th Centuries)''. In 1971‑1975 she was a junior researcher and in 1978‑2001 – a senior researcher at the Institute for Humanities Research of the Buryatia Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences / Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the BSC SB RAS.
