In May 1968 Abram Dridzo defended his Candidate’s Dissertation at the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences; it was titled ''The Jamaican Maroons (A Historical and Ethnographic Sketch)''. In October 1986 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation, titled ''The Indians of the West Indies: The Main Trends of Ethnic Development''. From 1988 he worked as a leading researcher of the Department of America of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR AS / MAE RAS.
