On 4 July 1995, in MAE RAS, Sergey Bereznitsky defended his Candidate Dissertation, titled ''The Beliefs and Rituals of the Orochi (mid 19th–20th Centuries)''. On 28 November 2005 he defended his Doctoral Dissertation, titled ''The Beliefs and Rituals of Aboriginal Peoples of the South of the Far East: Ethnocultural Components and Contemporary State''. Since 2010 Bereznitsky is a leading research fellow at MAE RAS.
