On 12 December 2002 Elena Batyanova defended her Candidate Dissertation, titled ''Teleutic Kins and Tribes in the 19th – 20th Centuries'', at the Institute of Ethnography. Since 1983 she worked at the Institute of Ethnography, USSR AS, presently she is a senior researcher at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, RAS. Since 1976 she has participated in over 20 expeditions (Teleuts, Koryaks, Chukchi).
